Maybe that happened in the earlier years? If they are taught at one and not the other, it would definitely make a difference in which we chose.

3-6th grade is the most popular time to do this
Lots of bar/bat mitzvah parties so many of kids end up at those instead. At Mrs. Simpson's, by 8th grade, pretty much half of the kids ha dropped out. Middle School dances and mizers also play a part.
