Do we think she's electable outside NY?
New Yorker here. I love AOC. She is an incredibly gifted politician. If she were a man, I would think yes.
Did you see her response when asked about running for president?
‘My ambition is much bigger than that…’
Best answer I have ever heard to that question.
What could be her bigger ambition?
Here’s her answer:
“What’s funny is they assume my ambition is a title or a seat. My ambition is to change this country. Presidents come and go. Senate, House seats, elected officials come and go”.
“But single-payer healthcare is forever. A living wage is forever, workers’ rights are forever, women’s rights, all of that, and to a finer point to your question is that when you aren’t attached, when you haven’t been like fantasizing about being this or that since the time you were seven years old, it is tremendously liberating”.
She wants to “make decisions from a place of how are we going to change the country”.
“I make decisions by waking up in the morning, looking out the window and observing the conditions of this country. And saying what move or what decision can I make today that is going to get us closer to that future, stronger, faster, better than yesterday”.

Money, specifically very wealthy mega-donors, didn't have firm control of our political system 15 years ago.An AOC type has zero chance of advancing to party leadership positions in a political climate ruled by rich people who detest close the wealth divide policies. That fact sucks but that's where we are now in 2026

Remember all the states Obama won in 08 - Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, Florida, NC... He governed as a moderate but he was not viewed as one in the campaign. It's about someone who gets others excited. Not saying AOC is clearly that person who can make it happen but a lot of moderates are boring and don't generate the turnout or enthusiasm you need to win.

That remains to be seen. She will get her chance to try at some point.
I hope she gets a fair chance at some point sooner than later and I hope she is given that opportunity without having to compromise her integrity by playing nice with wealthy political investors.
