Pretty much the same except for the type of student, and admissions standards.

Prep pretty much the same thing as Gonzaga except for tuition. More similarities than differences. If Prep isn’t in a compelling sports league then it will be incredibly difficult to convince athletes to attend.

The IAC athletic directors are preparing for a new IAC (or the formation of a new league) which doesn't include GP. If Prep is "voted out" or voluntarily joins the WCAC, the Potomac School will join the league as a replacement, this has been discussed. Landon doesn't control the league, they are just one vote.

I agree that the IAC without Prep is less desirable but its the new reality. Prep has no business playing a school like Saint Stephens or even Episcopal when it is 3x the size of them. As you mentioned, the Hoyas already have natural rivalries with GZ, SJC and GC. Prep would do more than just fine in the WCAC, they would be a strong addition to the Catholic league.

Prep can still play Landon or STA in non-league contests if the schools choose to do so.

I think the earlier point about tuition is valid. Prep is in line with the IAC, not the WCAC in terms of pricing. That’s a big factor.

I can’t decide if this poster is trolling us or not. Or whether there really is a “kinder, gentler Landon” that is not interested in heated rivalries.

The Landon athletic program has always been centered on playing Prep. When Prep football was expelled from the IAC in 2004, only Landon voted against it. And then proceeded to schedule Prep each year even though they weren’t in the same Conference.

Prep actually has an alternative … the WCAC. Rivalries with Gonzaga, SJC and even OLGC would develop almost immediately.

The IAC without Prep is both smaller and less desirable. It would be a shaky conference with the Virginia schools looking at alternatives.

care to elaborate more here as this is a pretty bold statement. Can you provide some factual evidence here or is this just your "gut" talking?

Who knows? If it’s true, there will be some sort of announcement. The longer it goes the less likely it’s true.

On its face, it’s unlikely. But not impossible.

I read that a new AD started at McDonough on July 1.

The rumored new GP lacrosse coach wouldn’t be the first person to bolt an organization if they didn’t like a new direction or a new boss coming in. Especially if that person thought they should have been given the job.

The problem is that we longtime IAC watchers have seen this or similar things before. And the schools minus Sidwell are still together. They expelled Prep football twice. They endured a couple attempts by members to become basketball powers (Bullis with Hibbs, EHS with Freddy Brown and GP with Dwayne Bryant). Landon and then Landon and Prep dominated lacrosse for decades.

The Prep people believe that in order to justify their very high price, they have to be seen as being the Catholic version of STA, Landon and Bullis. And these schools are certainly more like Prep than DeMatha, St Johns and Good Counsel. And many of the GP kids come from neighborhoods in which the non-Catholics attend Landon, Bullis and STA.

It seems to be that these other schools have decided over decades that they are better together than apart.

Could GP leave the IAC? Anthings possible. But it is a long way from the certainty you imagine.

The new guy will definitely take over for Paro. Not at first, but Paro wants to retire in the next few years.
