IDA, MIT/LL, and MITRE are all FFRDCs. So similar in that way. The differences are more subtle.
MIT/LL and Mitre are "systems engineering" FFRDCs; so they also will both design and build prototypes.
IDA does some systems work, but mostly IDA just writes paper reports. As far as I know, IDA does not design or build anything.

MIT/LL and Mitre are "systems engineering" FFRDCs; so they also will both design and build prototypes.
IDA does some systems work, but mostly IDA just writes paper reports. As far as I know, IDA does not design or build anything.
