NBC is also moving away from covering this as a rescue operation for living survivors. That Kansas thing is nuts, there are tons of emergency vehicles that have been there for hours. Immobile. This is like WTF on 9/11; they've got a huge operation ready to go...there are no "patients."

The odds were never good. Mid-air collisions generally end very poorly for all involved as the forces involved and the loss of structural integrity of the aircraft just are beyond human tolerance. The deadliest aviation accident in modern history was a runway collision in Tenerife where neither plane really even left the ground. The height at which it happened and falling into the water are mostly superfluous factors, honestly.
