No one is held back in mcps. Therefore, the D students are the Fs.
The C students are the D students and so on.

We made such a big mistake going with public school.

This isn't phones.

You can not put 30+ students in a class and expect anything more than self-driven students.

My kid in now in AP Lang and it's clear that this where she will get her best writing instruction. The teacher has a lot of work to do but she seems committed to ensuring that the kids will be able to write by the time the class is over. It's too bad that it took until junior year though.

You can't have a focus on getting kids college ready if you aren't prioritizing excellence in math, reading and writing though.

Funny! My kids did most of their writing in CES up until 8th grade. I have a freshman in SMCS @Blair and am also pleasantly surprised by the quality of honors english. They actually read books and learn grammar!

They need a complete overhaul of English / Reading/ Writing. The best I have seen was CES in 4th and 5th. After that it was abysmal.

They're probably not even a real private school parent but one of the MCPS haters that post here non-stop. They're mostly angry that our culture has changed since the 1950s and will complain about pretty much anything because of it.


Academically, at most schools, they have gotten away from the basics and kids are struggling BUT as a parent, you need to monitor your child and make sure they get what they need, public or private.

My kids who went to MCPS magnet programs (before MCPS waged a war on GT education), were voracious readers since ES and remain voracious readers to this day.

I supplemented for spelling, handwriting, grammar and creative writing from pre-school through workbooks, apps, tutors etc. But, I had a lot of time on my hand as an UMC and well educated SAHM.
