My GenX friends and I love having our kids around, even when it is tough, and enjoy one another's families. Life is not just about expensive vacations (I have done plenty of those). Buying yourself stuff maxes out as far as enjoyment at a certain point. I am headed out to see a new baby nephew soon and cannot wait. I love being from a big family and being part of the next generation as a mom, aunt, and potentially grandmother one day.
I used to travel the world for work business/first class and stay in 5 star hotels. I can't imagine just making a whole life out of fancy breakfast buffets and aperols. But, great--enjoy and if you need validation, just ask another millennial for it!

It’s just the usual DCUM crowd circling the wagons. You’ll find them on other threads complaining bitterly about their kids.

But, i can say as a parent that most of us struggle through with zero village and little family help which is much different then past generations. We also have to both work to even make ends meet, creating full time stress of trying to balance it all. Parenting now is just different then it used to be. It's very go-it-alone and incredibly hard.

Sorry, Boomers were not at all self absorbed, and, in fact, paved the road for all subsequent generations of working Moms by 1. Entering the workforce in previously male dominated fields 2. Helped to form policy with regard to work, pay, and childcare 3. Moved men into the family roles of parenting 3. And literally did it all- work, home, kids, friends, community. 4. Started the foundation for racial and cultural integration, a 5. ME TOO warriors before there was Me Too. 6.Boomers brought technology to the workplace and personal life. 7. Boomer women ran for public office 8. Boomer women protested the Viet Nam war and rallied for gay rights. Boomer women started to become financially independent 9. We divorced! Their parents largely could not.
No one in the Boomer years was self absorbed. We saved, and lived through 4 recessions as adults. We entered the housing market when rates were at 18% Gen X took the reign from them and continued the work, which was great!
Sadly, Millennials, though, seem paralyzed in all aspects and that is going to hurt deeply when this generation reaches old age.
