DCPS needs accountability as they get away with way too much crap
All the parents had to do was hold one zoom meeting and write one letter that got signed by parents. This was what the IS told the parents to do. Why the IS couldn’t run his concerns up the chain himself is unfortunate. It required the parents who hold a lot of power to speak up.
The zoom meeting was the second to last event in a sequence of events that took months, and hundreds of hours of effort by multiple parent groups. The petition was the last. And 400+ parents would not have just signed the thing had they not been provided the information to their satisfaction that something this disruptive was necessary and nothing else remained to be tried.

That’s an affordable housing issue and a totally different discussion related to landlords wanting more $$ provided by vouchers. You’ve been all over WaPo and at every DCHA hearing with your complaints. Get your complaints of this thread.

I heard from reliable sources that there is more information that both teachers AND parents are not privy to that played into this decision. I personally do not know what this info is, but it’s clear there is more to this story than just a petition. I wouldn’t jump on here and make claims one way or another without being able to say you 100% know all the facts. The truth is, no one in this board knows 100% of it.

This puts DCPS on notice that they better do right by Hardy.

What I have seen is posters rejecting the idea that no change should happen because it's not also happening somewhere else that maybe it should be. That seems to be what you are saying: How dare those Hardy parents speak up when others don't/don't get heard?!

What posters have said is that *all* parents should be heard and, if some are getting dismissed, them let's address that. But deciding that no problems should be fixed so all parents are equally unheard is a bizarre path to fairness.
This is exactly right. I don’t think anywhere doubts that there is such a thing as institutionalized racism, but accusing Hardy parents of racism because they took issue with PJ’s performance is beyond the pale. If there are examples of cases where parents at EOTR schools where similarly outraged at the performance of their school administrators and were ignored, it would be great to hear about them. It would greatly benefit DCPS for other PTOs and parents to learn how to organize like they did at Hardy. I don’t doubt though that there are those here who want nothing less for that to happen, hence their faux outrage at how effective it was.

The problem with your post and logic is that it assumes the point of those posters is to solve issues in their communities and improve schools there. It isn't. The point of the exercise is performative nonsense. The point is to find any and all made up slights and call them out as evidence of racism and privilege. There are lots of people in poor communities trying to solve problems. Unfortunately they aren't the loudest voices or the ones on TV. The efforts of people trying to actually improve their communities are hurt every time one of these performance artists pops off at the mouth.

They pointed out that the only defenses thus far are based on some unfounded accusation that he was fired for being black. They ignore that DCPS made their own findings and replaced him but you ignore that inconvenient fact and pretend like the parents fired him.

If 500 ward 8 parents signed a petition after their leadership had spent all year making a paper trail and exhausting all other avenues, yes, it should happen just like this.
If it wouldn't happen despite that level of organizing, there's the true racism.

The real victims are the DCPS students who suffer the consequences of attempts to weaponize identity politics and false accusations of racism to shield incompetent DCPS teachers and administrators.
