When we hear the horrible news everyday in corrupt ass MCPS we will just laugh and realize that this is the status quo that may never be challenged without risking your job as a teacher. MCPS s motto should be " if you see something and say something you will be looking for a new job"

In MCPS the kids harrass teachers and peers all day without consequences. Spineless admin want to inflate all the grades and hush all of the criminal behavior. Teachers are damned if they do their job and damed if they don't. I would not recommend a scapegoated profession like teaching bc their is no fun,no autonomy, and no respect for education. Thanks spineless admin for corrupting a once noble field. It is because of you that you can't have teachers anymore. We teachers won't stand for abuse or blatant corruption. Will someone please investigate Mcps,mcea, the board of Ed, and principals. The grade inflation, bullying if whistleblowers, bullying of teachers who already feel unsafe, and coddling violent students borderlines illegal.

In VA we do. In some states they don’t.

In Illinois one's SS benefits are greatly reduced if you get a pension. Teachers don't pay into SS when working for public schools, but we do over the summer, our second/third/fourth jobs and all the places we work between age 15-22 or after retiring from teaching. However, there is a lot of momentum around changing that.
Some of us also save for retirement separately. I personally have a Roth IRA, a traditional IRA and a 403b (or something similarly named). I'm just too afraid that retirement benefits will be reduced due to the fund tanking. And I know I won't teach the full 34 years required in my "tier" to get the full 74%. I *might* make it to 22-24 years. My other retirement accounts will make up the difference.

In VA, yes. In about 14 states, no.
