I think Mclean used to be primary club in this area that had ECNL so talents flocked over to Mclean to get noticed by college coaches. Once Arlington and Brave got the ECNL status + the decline of GA/DA, talents have more options and spread out. Not that any club is getting better or worse at developing talents but talents have more options to pick and more spread out over all.

+1

People like to say that clubs are doing a better job at developing etc. over another. The truth is that now there are many more options than just FCV and McLean as it was for many years. Talent is distributed and clubs are now focused on recruiting coaches and players to eventually attract even more talent.

Arlington isn't doing much better but so many factors that contributed to that. They seem to be doing ok on the younger sides so hopefully they are building the program to be better. FVU is likely going to get dissolved in 2 years and another merger.

A new ECNL girls director at McLean would work wonders. Having someone worried more about the club than their own pockets could change things quickly.

Nothing changed for McLean? Literally Arlington got ECNL and less than two years later McLean is out. Even the girl teams, which admittedly had some success.

You can’t be serious with this!

I don’t understand the MYs defenders, and I used to be one. We had a great club for girls, but it has been destroyed by bad coaching and mismanagement by the club. I understand the Board is trying hard to fix things, but we need to clean house at the club level.

The recent director hires are impressive and I hope they can turn things around, but they will have to try to steal kids from Arlington and Alexandria if they want to compete, which will be hard, particularly for the boy teams.

I am not sure what to expect for MYS girl teams going forward. 2013G has been a strong class, but I can’t imagine what the future holds. Even if they go to FVU, that is hardly MYS anymore. So how do we even measure success for McLean when they don’t have ECNL teams for our top girls? We just send them to FVU now.

What matters is how they do at the playoffs. Based on previous year results - not great.

Honestly, it’s insanity. All of it and everyone involved.

This isn’t Spades so stop with the 1 possible 2 stuff. They have ONE high performing team and those kids will be graduating sooner than later. The mighty McLean looking more and more like Valor.

I don't get it, Mclean advertising 4 girls teams are headed to nationals, so how are we measuring high performance? Boys only have the 1 team that qualified .. so yes, boys have historically and likely will continue to struggle

Please stop already with Union qualified 4 teams to nationals. 2 champions league qualifiers is the headline. We are measuring performance with 2 champions league qualifiers. That is less than VDA and NVA. One more than BRAVE.

Nope. Brave Girls had two - 2008s and 2010s

I bet the kids on all those teams, VDA, NVA and Brave included all feel like they had successful seasons ...
