Like her or not, she's getting non-soccer fans like me to get energized about the sport. I started to watch because of her, but I stayed because of the rest of the team.

Of course they need to be replaced in time, but they deliver as-is. Contrast that to men's side...
As was posted on the other WC thread, the USWNT did a great job replacing the older players from the 2015 team with younger players on the 2019 team.
The 2015 team included players like Hope Solo, Abby Wambach, Christine Rampone, Heather O'Reilly, Lauren Holiday, Shannon Boxx, Meghan Klingebberg, etc., all of whom either retired or did not make the 2019 roster. In addition, key starters from the 2015 team like Carly Lloyd, Ali Krieger, Morgan Brian, etc. were transitioned out of the starting lineup and into reserve roles on the 2019 team.
That is a lot of players who were replaced over the last 4 years, and the USWNT did a great job integrating their replacements into the 2019 team.
As for the future, there is already a good core of players from the 2019 team who should still be quite good by the 2023 WC: Ertz (27), Mewis (26), Dahlkemper (26), Dunn (26), Horan (25), Lavelle (24), Pugh (21) and Davidson (20).

Other than the France game she was pretty damn good. Okay vs France. Had some great moments of individual quality and combination play.
Hope Solo said Lavelle should have gotten the golden ball and that Lavelle was by far the best player in the tournament. She also said Dunn was the second best player in the WC and that Tobin Heath was also up there.
So why does all of the attention go to Morgan, Rapinoe and O'Hara?
DP: because they are older and better-known.
Correct. It is the marketing cycle. Lavelle (along with Horan, Mewis, and Pugh) will be THE star in 2023, if she is not injured. I predict WS will sell her rights to a Euro club (for $$$) and she'll play there, become a bigger star and then return to NWSL (or whatever the US pro league may be by then) in 2022 or 2023. Most of the 2019 team will be retired from US competition next time, so the next wave comes into the limelight. In the meantime, my focus goes over to watching the men's team try to improve so that when they make the 2022 WC they do reasonably well (get out of group and maybe win a round of 16 match).

And over the next 4 years, as those older players retire or get moved to substitute roles (like Lloyd this year), you will see the marketing energy turned towards the next generation of players like Lavelle, Pugh, Horan, etc. This is fine, and the USWNT has done a great job of "passing the torch" since the 99ers.
