The above is ridiculous. My wife and I hold 4 ivy degrees between us and we are both very familiar with the term “lesser ivies.” We each hold one degree from a lesser and another from a top. That said, we are not pushing our own children in the direction of the Ivy’s the way our parents pushed us because we didn’t find the benefit of the Ivy pedigree to be worth the related costs - financial and societal - of attending an Ivy. There’s a fair amount of truth to the old adage that once you reach the summit you sometimes find there’s not all that much to see...

When I was in a property Ivy, we called those schools “potted ivies.” Of course that’s snark and little more; they are great schools.
