That is not a great view to have about the main education program for such a huge county. In my experience, OPs "drama" has been playing out with nearly every second grade family I know and we are at a supposedly great school. FCPS needs to deal with this. IMHO, AAP should be replaced with real GT (truly gifted isn't 20 percent of a class) and the AAP resources redirected back to educating the majority of kids. The current situation is a perversion of resources in every way. And it is the reason we are heading to private and not looking back.

No we cannot afford another year in private school
We don’t know what else to do next
Please stop the drama. Your kid will go to Floris and be perfectly fine. He’ll be surrounded by nice kids who will be just as smart. He’ll have a great teacher who will provide great learning experiences for him. If you’re still desperate for him to be in an AAP center, you can apply again.

The principal is your pal. The principal is the one who can place kids in the Level IV class, it is not a matter of principle.
Actually, is is a committee at the local school even though it is called principal placed.
PP was just being snarky about the spelling mistake. Doesn't every kid learn that the principal is your pal?

Floris ES has local level IV. What you do next is send your kid to Floris, and sometime at the end of this school year or over the summer, meet with the principal to discuss principal placing your child in a LLIV classroom.

Agree! OP, can you transfer your child to Floris now so that by the end of school year Floris teachers would have a very good understanding of your child to assure he gets "principle placement" in the local level IV classroom for 3rd grade? Then next year you can apply for 4th grade center level IV AAP? Be strong and advocate for your child. He will shine!

Got a response that scores are just one of many data points and each file is holistically examined by multiple people. And this decision is final for this year. Also mentioned that I am free to apply in next screening cycle
Honestly with those scores I would raise hell.
OP has already appealed and has already spoken to several people regarding the appeal. They've advised her to apply again next year. Now her DC can go to 3rd grade and apply again next year.
