I do not let my kids blame anything on the ref on their teammates, etc. It's a cop out. Life isn't fair either. The sooner kids experience all sides of this, the better off they will be. Watching their parents act like idiots on the sidelines---that's hard to get over.
I realize some of you can't handle losing your 'gotsoccer' points, but really---get a life.
The primary job of a ref. is to ensure the safety of kids. I’ve seen refs who don’t make calls on fouls and lets the game get out of control. I will absolutely say something if a ref losses control of the game and lets fouling go unchecked.

I don’t understand what you are saying. Should the parent have punched the ref? Cell phones are expensive. Calling the cops seems like the right move to me. I wouldn’t have tolerated the ref knocking the phone out of my hands.
The ref isn't a celebrity, would it be all right to be filming him?

IF you were acting like an obnoxious d*che with the phone up in the ref's face like you were going to catch all the "injustices" on video---I definitely would have knocked the phone out of your hand...and then shoved up your a**.
Well then you’d no longer be a ref and from the sound of this conversation hopefully this ref won’t be one anymore either. Mission accomplished.
I'm a parent disgusted with other parent behavior. I side with the ref about 98% of the time when it comes to proper behavior. Yes--missed calls happened. It's a kid's sport---not the end of the World.

Yes, it's none of my business but I'm curious. It was around 3:30 pm on the Sunday of the Battlefield tournament. We had time to kill and sat at the top of the parking lot overlooking the turf fields when I saw a bunch of parents and the ref in a pushing (from my view could have been a punch/swat) match. Lots of screaming and then the field clears out and appeared one of the teams just got up and left in the middle of the match. Then cops show up and talked to the ref for a bit. Lost track after that.
You big tease, I was expecting more!![]()
I was on bleachers between the fields. Apparently the Ref and a parent got into it based on some bad calls and when the ref approached the parent he was being filmed with what looked like a cellphone. Ref didn't not think kindly of it and slapped the phone out of the parent's hand. Parent called called cops and attempted to file assault charges. It was more entertaining than my daughter's finals loss!
Thank you for the details. That is truly interesting. Both the parent and ref sound like idiots in this case.
True, but only one of them has a job in youth soccer, and it was that one who escalated a verbal confrontation into a physical one.
That ref should be done.
Agree about the ref--there is no excuse for touching anyone--but what a complete weenie move by the parent.
