Because he's a bad manager.
Because he waited to get the chain of command in place. It's normal to start at the top and work your way down. Sessions waited for his deputy to get installed and let him make the decision and lay out the case--his deputy is in the FBI chain of command, especially since S has recused himself from Russia investigation. He is tryi--ng to depoliticize the DOJ.
Face it, HRC's problems with the FBI started with her.
WJC iced the political problems within O's DOJ when he spoke wtih Lynch on the tarmac.
I think Comey tried to walk the fine line between Dems and GOP when he did not charge HRC-yet laid out the case against her. His statement about "no reasonable prosecutor" was inaccurate according to many AUSA's. There is a Marine who is currently in trouble who clearly had no "intent".
Dems have been calling for Comey's ouster. This followed a normal process. Had Dems not stalled so long on the appointments of Sessions and his staff, this would not have taken so long.

How about hysterical Reps? There's a few. If there's no independent FBI there is NO check on the presidents behavior. Law and order as we know it will cease functioning.

I would have fired him after negotiating with Hillary over taking the email server with classified material on it. You don't negotiate, you confiscate it immediately, no questions asked.
This. Exactly. You're either a law enforcement official or you're not. Extraordinarily poor judgement from an official that everyone--both sides of the aisle--expects more from.

Do you people even understand how these things work?
BINGO. Why are liberals here so up in arms? Because they focus on players, not the play. ALWAYS.

I understand how they work. Investigations won't come to a "screeching halt" but they can and will be targeted to minimize political fallout for Team Trump. With Comey and his god complex, we would get an independent investigation controlled by Comey's personal (and biased) ethics system. But that independence is exactly what worries Trump. He wants an investigation that will exonerate him.
Senate can now hire Comey to run their investigation, he has the clearance That would make my day
