Do you mean people who believe in the idea of "live and let live"? People who aren't so wrapped up in the rat race that they forget to just live? Because I don't see the correlation.

Most people like that are happier and smarter because they have found peace and acceptance and it isn't in the form of cars, houses and shit they don't need. The people I know who are "hippie" types still work and hold down actual jobs but they are not constantly trying to climb the ladder. Is that really all that terrible?

You haven't been to many places in Florida or Oregon where the true hippies panhandle, smoke pot and otherwise freeload.

I don't get why people obsess over and pay hundreds of thousands of dollars more to live in the "best" school district.
Your "amazing" public schools aren't amazing because of superior teaching methods or great curriculum, they're "amazing" because the students that attend them come from privileged backgrounds and have well-educated parents. It's classism, really. People want their kids to go to school with people who are like them.

Of course, if it is a legitimate safety issue or extreme distribution problems, that will hinder learning. But quit acting like your child is getting soooo much better of an education because her school is a 10/10 on GS instead of a 6.

Also those who miscarry. There is something physically wrong with them on both counts and they shouldn't have children.

I can't figure out how to take this one. Explain please.

I think moms who have large babies ate well and put the baby first.
moms with small babies were more concerned with staying slim and avoiding stretch marks.
I feel with big babies. I did a better job developing baby.

flame away

Do you have stats to back this up?

And privates are almost always better than even the good publics in that you can find a good fit for your kid, and have much more say over their education.

I refuse to let public schools become dumping grounds for the disenfranchised. My kids go to public and they'll be absolutely fine. They have cultural capital. Meanwhile they're learning that not everyone in this world is rich and white.

It's not going to take my private-school kid 13 years to learn that not everybody in the world is rich and white. And unless your public is Title I, you have no reason to preen. You're just paying a different kind of tuition.

Ok, so where do you ladies live? I highly doubt it is southeast

The fact that they didn't seem to act fascinated and enthralled about the pardoning of a turkey, and that one wore a miniskirt that day seems to upset a lot of people.

Seriously! People are ridiculous! There is nothing wrong with how the Obama girls behave.

I think this is one reason why they are very rarely in public view. Except for one or two official events, I really only remember seeing pictures of them when they're returning from vacation with their parents or something. Unless I'm missing something I don't think they usually end up in the media all that often anymore.

They're teenagers; they didn't ask to be pulled into a high profile position simply due to their father's job and I do not think they are particularly well prepared to be in such a position.

This is either normal and appropriate if you don't believe kids of politicians should play a role in representing their families, or it is a failure on the part of whichever parent takes the primary day-to-day interest in raising them if you believe the opposite and that kids whose families are in such positions have a duty to something larger than themselves.

I tend slightly towards the latter point of view for teenagers or older.

Agree the turkey gig is stupid But it's dads job so they should be respectful. I am sure he doesn't come to their high school orchestra concerts and roll his eyes

Those girls should know by that age how to act fascinated and attentive for a few minutes And if they won't do it they should be left at home and out of the pictures.

Come off it, most teens have no interest in politics. They are under way more pressure than the average teen.

Exactly. So either they are taught to take the pressure and start demonstrating an ability to do so (which may or may not be too much to ask from teens) or they get to act like more typical teens and avoid the pressure by being kept away from official events.

And, I have tried for years to find a way to move to Canada. I am so tired of the US - the capitalistic selfish shit, the military worship (excuse me - you volunteered!), the stupid anthem, the pledge of allegiance, and the "we are the greatest nation in the world" fiction.

Wish I would have mentioned this...agree 100%. They have my gratitude, but most of these guys did not sign up for the honor, they signed up because they didn't have any other options.

I've always thought people who enter the military are a little dim-witted.

Be happy they signed up so you don't have to go through the draft. My FIL always tells me about when he sat in an auditorium full of young guys waiting to hear if they had been drafted for the Vietnam war and how he and all the guys around him were sweating bullets.

Well, Go-o-o-o-o-lly Gee
