Newsweek, June 26

Republicans' chances of holding off Democrats in the 2026 midterms appear to have surged, according to a new poll. Meanwhile, several recent surveys still indicate possible trouble for the GOP, and a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spokesperson predicted a "favorable political environment" for 2026 to Newsweek.

Americans have short memories. But don't you worry.

A few well crafted ads on the ridiculous crime stats, immigration stats, DEI, wars overseas and foreign policy spinning out of control (paying Iran big cash, Ukraine, Israel), taking the Houthi off of the terrorism watch list, putting Tulsi Gabbard on the terrorism watch list, the lawfare games, the administration disaster policy in East Palestine spill/Lahaina fire/Los Angeles fire/FEMA selectively ignoring anyone identifying as a Trump supporter in North Carolina, and all the other very unAmerican things the Biden White House autopen did.

I think you’ll find that Americans are sick of being outraged. Trump is losing on immigration and just about everything else. People needed a reminder that treating trans people with kindness wasn’t actually the worst thing in the world. Watching your business go under, your baby die of measles, your belly go hungry, and your best friend’s spouse get mistakenly deported, all while your taxes go up - that could actually be worse.

Only 5 months in and this administration is an utter disaster.

Trump voter here and I’m thrilled. Stock market at record highs. Iran nuclear capabilities destroyed. Peace in Rwanda and Congo. Lawfare over. DEI on the run. An enforced border. Etc.

Because Trump said so?

Why does the left always think they are smarter than everyone else? Your condescension hasn’t exactly gotten your party election results or approval ratings outside the 20s. Maybe try debating on the merits instead of insults? All of us can see the current stock market levels on a tv news article. Here is CBS. Good enough for you? Or do you need MSNBC to spell it out for you?

The S&P 500 reached a new record high, with investors buoyed by signs of easing global trade tensions.

The broad-based index rose 32 points, or 0.5%, to close at 6,173, surpassing its previous all-time high in February of 6,144. The S&P 500 has jumped roughly 24% since dropping sharply in the days after President Trump announced his "Liberation Day" tariffs on April 2.

The Nasdaq Composite gained 105 points, or 0.5%, and set its own all-time high. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1% to 43,819, still below its previous high of 45,014 on Dec. 4, 2024.

This resilient American economy sure is impressive. It will take more than a pandemic and over 8 years of terrible leadership in the White House to derail our economy. If we can still prosper with the unfit leadership at the top we've had since Obama left office, just imagine the possibilities when we have a real president again!

R’s have no platform, no policies in place to actually help people with challenges most of us face: rising food costs, healthcare costs, housing, etc.

They have nothing.

Trump keeps pestering the Fed Chairman to lower the Fed Funds rate at a faster pace. Lowering the cost of borrowing money to stimulate the economy is Trump's best idea for tackling the financial challenges most Americans face. Artificially low rates in place for too long was a driver for the out of control inflation years following the pandemic so it's a slippery slope in both directions.

Our GDP is down and our trade deficit is up. Let’s see what happens.

And yet my s&p indexed portfolio is still down from last year.

Honestly, I hope so, but I’m skeptical. That having been said, Democrats are now primarily winning wealthy old people who are the only people who reliably vote, so they might win by pure demographics alone.

Remember 2018 and 2020? Dems will be successful in 2026 and 2028 for the same reason they were successful in 2018 and 2020. Dem candidates will benefit from the very unpopular sitting GOP POTUS. Wash, rinse, repeat.

In those elections, I don’t think they went into the elections as abysmally unpopular as they are now. Trump is unpopular. The Democrats as a whole are far more so.

But I hope you are right.
