DP. The Court of Appeals has no more authority than the district court to require the President to exercise executive powers. If Bukele refuses, then there is nothing the courts can do. They also cannot hold the President in contempt for failing to comply with their orders or opinions.

This is a political fight between Democrats and Republicans over immigration that has now spilled over into the judiciary. It is also a political fight between the executive branch and the judicial branch. The Supreme Court may be forced to weigh in again, but it will only be able to express dismay or disappointment that the President is not exercising his executive authority.

Thank God for Van Hollen. All of our due process rights depend on Americans paying attention to this case and demanding those rights for this man, who is a human being and is entitled to certain rights under our laws. Sorry if you want to dehumanize him so Trump can deport anyone he doesn't like.

Just out of curiosity, did the Trump Administration help "facilitate" this meeting? If so, then that gets the Maryland federal judge off his back (the court can no longer claim that it has done "nothing" to facilitate the release). It doesn't mean that Abrego Garcia will be released by the El Salvador government.

This is all political posturing. Sen. Van Hollen gets his photo op, while the President defuses the judicial situation.

I don't doubt the evidence suggesting this guy is POS criminal. The only people defending his character are very unlikely to be aware of his documented history of being a bad guy. Most people defending him are doing so out of regard for legal due process. When due process is neglected for an individual case, a can of future legal worms is opened.

You are correct. It is a particular form of courage and vision, to defend someone you have never met, and probably wouldn't like if you did, when you suspect he's actually not a decent person... because his case is a landmark case that will save the rights to due process of everyone else!

All the conservatives I've talked to agree with this point of view, BTW. It's only the extremist fringe and troll farms who repeat empty White House talking points and insults against "Democrats". "Democrats" are not the only ones who want due process for all. The majority of the US population wants due process for all.

What due process? He was seen by an immigration judge who denied asylum. He was seen by an appeals board who sided with the judge. How many times do you think one illegal immigrant needs to be seen? It’s ridiculous.

This happened during Trump’s first term, so why didn’t the felon start a deportation hearing then? Why was he still here???
