CCDS is smaller (fewer kids to place), slightly more preparatory for k (vs Reggio), and historically better exmissions. The facilities are better in my opinion, and the teachers are more seasoned. I heard delayed feedback as well this year, but they still did well in the end.

We didn’t get in to CCDS and ended up at All Souls. It was fine, but I’d still rank CCDS above it.

All Souls only has two PreK classes who exmit, does CCDS only have one? I also feel like CCDS has more siblings and legacies to compete with. I also disagree that teachers are less seasoned at All Souls. They had one teacher retire last year after many many years (teaching since the 1980s). The turn over is very low at All Souls, and all head teachers a some associates all have masters degrees.

I can’t speak to CCDS facilities, I’ve never seen them, but All Souls upgraded their facilities a few years ago.

Also in terms of K preparedness, All Souls kids get in to all the same TT schools CCDS kids get in to, so they are definitely just as prepared even with a play based curriculum (which is what kids in early childhood should be getting).

If you are a family that is unconnected, no legacy, no siblings, and targeting top-tier private for kindergarten, either co-ed (Dalton, Trinity, etc) or all-boys school, which of these preschools are actually best to choose.

Or is or better to start at Town and continue at Town, and do exmissions after elementary / middle school?

My spouse is okay with doing Town for nursery all the way to elementary/middle school. And do exmissions later on. For me personally, I would prefer top-tier private coed or all-boys for kindergarten and onwards.

What would you advise on this situation?

Since it sounds like you haven’t agreed on what you are looking for for K, I would do IPS or Montclare. Worst case you could apply to Town again for K. It is not as competitive as TT co-ed and some of the all-boys. Just be sure to give them a thoughtful reply back to your acceptance letter as soon as possible.

Columbus was recently sold by the family that started it. Some of the teachers stayed (and the director stayed), but many teachers left. I really liked the director but it felt like maybe a school in transition and that gave me pause.

The only other thing to know is if your child has a summer birthday (meaning you’d likely have to redshirt and apply to private k), at Columbus it’s a repeat of 4s, whereas other preschools offer a 5s program.

Columbus preschool is meh. Would definitely skip

Thanks both. We are actually leaning more towards private. We've heard PS9 was great on the public side, but still would prefer private.
We aren't fixed on UWS vs. UES, and pretty adaptable.
Being Europeans (system is different and less competitive there), we won't cry if we get into an A/A- school vs. an A+ school ; as long as it solid academically, gives strong options for high school and our kid is HAPPY.
