Several factors; but principally the governor’s election, the reaction to McAuliffe’s debate gaffe on education, and the 3 recalls (even though they were not ultimately successful).

McAuliffe won Fairfax County with 65% of the vote. 286,316 to 152,110 vote count. As far as the recall effort, I don't see how the number of petition signatures represent most FCPS parents.

A few students had virtual school all year, and that won’t happen again in the coming year. Every single teacher will be in person as will every single student. There are such things as acting or interim Superintendents. FCPS has had them before, as have other local divisions.

In the context of a $3B annual budget buying out Reid’s contract wouldn’t be that big a deal, compared to the lift that parents would feel if there were finally a School Board and interim Superintendent paying attention to what actually matters again.

And given the lack of transparency about Reid’s hiring, no one should feel sorry for her if she’s shown the door early.

FCPS is a very large organization that should be headed by someone with proven management experience, but the School Board members embraced Reid because they all think she’s a kindred spirit. She’ll almost surely just end up magnifying their own glaring deficiencies as planners and leaders.

I wholly disagree with this bs about “indoctrination.” These are talking points from your ultra right wingnut crowd. “Many parents” are grateful that their transgender kid is being acknowledged and that the board is working to put protections in place for them. This narrative that others’ rights being protected somehow takes away from your rights is downright wrong. I’m sure you also think that gay people being able to get married takes away your rights. Yeah, no.

Are you also referring to women’s rights at sports? Right… the voices advocating for women in this travesty are not coming from people who express themselves the way you do about women. I mean, if you want to use this thread to talk about topics that concern women, I think that those of us who have girls at FCPS can agree that the most pressing issues relevant to school girls are the unfairness of them no longer be able to aspire to be the best in their category because the concept of women has been erased by the School Board, and most likely, our girls’ right to sex segregated spaces at bathrooms and lockers will no longer exit come this fall. The majority of parents, regardless of political affiliation or faith, are not happy with this violation of women’s right to privacy and their rights of equality under what used to be Title IX.

We send our daughters (and sons) to FCPS to get an education. We also have an expectation that our girls will have the same opportunities as our boys. Who they choose to marry when they are mature enough is not as pressing of an issue for our K-12. They’ll have plenty of time once they leave FCPS.
