We'll never know what kind of person he MIGHT have become, because the presence of guns means that what MIGHT have been a transitory problem in his life relating to brain immaturity combined with bad circumstances combined with an inability to process emotions in a healthy manner turned into a permanent and life-altering day -- both for him and for every one of the children in that school. Guns take a problem that could be a big or small problem and very quickly turn them into an awful, awful, awful problem.

The biggest question here (to my mind) is why, as a country, do we keep giving serious weaponry to people that refuse to be responsible for them? You can't get a car or adopt a dog without showing that you will take care of it properly and get the right tags, insurance, etc. Where is the accountability for gun owners? How can any judge think that this is a "a well regulated militia"?

(Side note, but the fact that the S Ct justices were just giving the oral advocates crap about where in the constitution does it protect the right to abortion, when they refuse to acknowledge that the constitution also says nothing about the right to keep massive weaponry unlocked in your kitchen....is just one of the reasons I am SO SICK of our legal system.)

In Germany, we actually have 3 levels of state schools. This is why the university is cost-free; only those students of high abilities should be in the university.

The other students receive an education appropriate for their intelligence/skill level, to prepare them for a job appropriate for them.

In this way, we avoid so many of the social problems you have here in America.
