Gee, do you think the “why” is that OP has a mother who says horrible things to her? Way to victim-blame. The “why” behind OP’s rumination and negative thoughts/feelings is her mother’s rudeness and harsh words. No child deserves to be called “worthless,” at any age, for any reason.
Not trying to vic blame. Trying to victim empower. No child deserves to be called worthless but as am adult you have hopefully resources to heal and move on.
I'm dying. I'm dead and have come back as a ghost to haunt you.
Then you should have said that. You didn’t. You said “take this as an opportunity to look at why,” as if it is some big mystery. Nice try at backpedaling, though.

If it's not themselves, they have no right to joke at someone else's expense. It's lazy, cheap, and hurtful masquerading as a joke. Take it someone else.
All you sensitive Sally’s who have no idea the context or history need to take it down a notch!!!!
There are a lot of ways this could’ve played out the kids go to been complaining about stuff that their mother did or couldn’t do and your grandmother was saying oh yeah your mom she’s totally worthless in a way that Meant to show how ridiculous their complaints were. I can imagine a scenario with my mother in which I would say ‘man I can’t sew’ and she would say ‘oh you are totally worthless’ and we would both laugh because of the ridiculousness of it and it was meant to be funny.
Some of you are over sensitive.

Read the OP:
"I feel pretty worthless".
That's all you and OP's mom need to know. It was an attempt at a joke. It failed miserably; as you can see, the person being "joked" about felt "pretty worthless" about it.
And, maybe OP is super sensitive. Guess we will never know.
Grow up.
My kids have Have had times where they’ve complain and I said yeah I’m terrible mom want to go get a new one?
Lighten up.
You’re an asshole.
Ok
And??
GFY and stop bothering people here, you’re not interesting, liked, or wanted.
LOL. Are you OP? You are even more immature here than your first post would lead us to believe. You really need therapy. And it sounds like your mom is right btw.
