ST math is mostly pictures and visuals, and kids spend a lot of time manipulating pictures. It is also very repetitive. It is extremely inefficient and doesn't help improve real math ability.
Also, what's the point of being in a classroom if you're working on a laptop? Can't we get back to paper and pencil. That's the whole point of being "in class" after all.

As parents, if you hope your kids can learn math well on ST math in school, it is impossible, on the contrary, your kids math level must be decrease.
True. Our AAP math teacher sat to eat a hamburger like a pig during ST math. My kid learned how to talk with her mouth full of lettuce and mayonnaise but while his math level decreased substantially.
Oy, will you let it go that you didn't like the way your kid's teacher ate last year. We all already read about it. Presumably you have a different teacher this year.
Will you ever understand that the main idea in the post is not about how the teacher eats but how erroneous is to use ST Math just to relax and eat a hamburger in the middle of a class? It tells your students you don’t care a single bit if their math level decrease.
DP. Your teacher is an exception. What teachers actually use ST Math and other workstations/centers for is to keep kids occupied while they see small groups or individual students. When we were kids, it was worksheets at our desk. The more things change...
That’s not good.

Paper is not the point of being in class. Other people is the point of being in class. Didn't your kid have access to paper during virtual school?
The rest demonstrates such poor understanding of math pedagogy that I can't even respond to it, other than to pray you don't have kids you try to help with their homework.

My son said the same thing about his math teacher. No ST Math! There was 1 short session on Khan Academy on one day but the other days the teacher taught to the whole class and the kids did worksheets. He liked it! I don’t know if this will change if and when the teacher starts small groups. But so far my kid is happy with the math teacher.
