It's not that. It's just that I can't imagine a Zoomer with NO social media at all. They live and die on their phones. I can see them paring back, but not having none at all.

well it was a very close decision with him... it was actually between UVA and Tech for engineering. I'm not going to say which he is at, but he wishes he chose the other.

Its pandemic and I am ok with college kids saying that they are homesick.

Yes, I think this generation is a bit more comfortable with showing their true feelings, even widely on social media. I can't remember if I was homesick at first (I definitely was at some point), but everyone was trying to be fun and show how happy they were, except maybe with closest friends/family.

I was so homesick and basically everyone was just “college is fun!”
I think it’s great they share their true feelings so others don’t feel alone. Even if the tik tokers see attention seeking.

Right. How long has any freshman been at school? More than 2 weeks? You have to give it some time.

With that said, there are plenty of reasons by new college students might be less prepared for college life this fall. School closures have taken their toll on kids' ability to socialize, deal with new relationships, and live on their own. There's no shame in needing time to adapt or in feeling overwhelmed.

First of all, it's ok to be somewhat homesick. You are thrown from the comfort of your home to a small concrete room and sleeping and getting dressed next to someone you never met before. I told my freshman to expect it to feel a little weird at first, they are ready, but every new transition takes some time to adjust.

The vast majority of kids are homesick at first. They just don’t post it on TikTok.

That is really sad. I just heard of a friend of my DS's who is very much regretting his college choice and having alot of trouble making friends. Very sad to hear and hard to imagine as my kids school has done such a great job of making a community.
