Our DD with a similar GPA was admitted to JMU, VT, South Carolina, Delaware, Pittsburgh, Miami University, Indiana.

She will be fine. I have one with that GPA and bombed ACT. Doing great at a Big10 school. Rushed, having a blast and getting good grades.

My DD (class of 2019) was not a genius. 980 SAT and 3.5 GPA (not one honor). mcps school system. She was accepted to Towson in some kind of "freshman transition" program where she lives on campus the first semester and takes classes through the Community College of Baltimore, and seamlessly transfers to Towson assuming she gets a 3.0 or higher. This program is invitation only. She jumped at the chance, successfully transferred over. And for what it's worth she said the classes in CCBC were way harder than any class at Towson. Give Towson a try and thanks for posting about your average son. DCUM is shark infested waters sometimes.

I don't think the 3.2 cutoff is accurate. Per the Common Data Set 44% of those admitted had a 3.24 or lower GPA (4.0 scale), including 27% with 2.99 or lower.

Out of all of the colleges in Virginia, what made you choose Mary Washington as the college that a below average applicant should apply to? There are many colleges in Virginia that are easier to get into than Mary Washington

If cost isn't a factor OP, try one of the many smaller private colleges out there in VA and PA. They need full pay students and would probably be fine with the stats.

Mary Baldwin (which is now coed), Hampton Sydney, Randolph Macon, Roanoke College, all in VA.
