I am an adult and I don’t even get all the things that you mentioned for a haircut. My haircuts are shampoo, conditioner, haircut with a tiny bit of product. I have not had a blow dry ever really. Caveat: I have curly hair I do not ever straighten it. Neither of my teens, one with curly hair like mine and one with wavy hair, have ever had a blow dry either.

I have friends that pay $90 plus when they get their haircut. I never understood that as my haircut is half that (at an actual salon—nothair Cuttery). The only time I pay more as when I get my hair colored.

Maybe I’m cheap, but if you’re paying $50 or more (minus tip) for just the shampoo and haircut, then you’re paying too much.


+1. I am an adult and I guess I’ve been getting tween cuts all this time and never noticed. I have also gotten hair cuttery cuts and blow drys quite a few times and it’s been fine. But I have long straight hair and it’s hard to screw up a trim.

Yes, that is the best method. What's your problem with it? You want to actually pay for the whole rigmarole of shampoo, conditioner, cut in the chair, blah blah blah? That's what makes hairdressers expensive, OP, and it serves no purpose for the actual hair trimming!



+1 It's really ignorant to assume that a dry cut is somehow less than.

One of my favorite stylists when I lived in SoCal did only dry cuts. Hair looks different when it dries, especially if it has waves or kinks in it. My hair is wavy. The stylist also gets a better sense of how to cut it to mesh with the hair's texture and direction of growth, which wet hair masks.

Even those who find it challenging to cut dry will at least take another look after blow-drying and finesse the cut once the hair is dry.

Try a different Hair Cuttery because all the stylists are different. I've been going to the same lady for 15 years and get a great shaped cut, thinned out to reduce bulk in my thick hair. Can't beat it.

It depends on what type of hair and what type of hair cut the person want. We take our son to a barber shop. It's usually Asian own. You sit down, they spray some water and start cutting. They do their thing and in about 20 minutes, you are done. $25. Don't even need appointments but that could change anytime with covid cases going up.

Exactly, I pay $65 for a shampoo, conditioner, scalp massage, cut with layers, thinning, blow dry, and flat iron.

There should be an option in the $30-40 range for a shampoo, cut, and blow-dry for tweens. Asking for $65+ for a middle schooler is a joke.


Its the same amount of work for a tween and you so its not unreasonable.
