My six year old did a bunch of sports camps through Falls Church City parks and rec. LOVED it. The coaches were so energetic and kind. My DS thought they were so cool and he was exhausted from being active by the time I picked him up at 3 pm.

The only downside is there is a lot of construction at Meridian HS, which makes parking a pain.

We've also had another great summer with their day camp. We may mix it up with the Adventure camp next summer, at least for my older two (currently 7 and 9).

Girl Scout camps, but you either need to volunteer or your kid will need to get in by lottery.

My 6 year old daughter loved Moco Rec Summer Fun Center. Soooo cheap and well run! It was right in the wheelhouse for typical 6 year old girl. Lots and lots of games/movement and crafts and just general hanging out with kids. Everyone who worked the camp was amazingly nice and she made some really nice friends.

My 7yo DD loved Knights of Columbus and it’s very affordable. Lots of swim time, a lunch option and extended day. She also loved Congo, Dynamic gymnastics. We did an encore as well that she enjoyed because she did it with a friend.

DS9 loved Camp Halfblood in Rock Creek Park.

Camps are one of those things where you get what you pay for.

Oh man, this is so true though. For safety reasons, you want a camp where the counselors are experienced and well paid.

camp Sonshine is $330 a week. If you do 2 weeks or more it drops to $305. If you refer someone you get $30 off.

My main annoyance camp-wise when we moved toVA from MD is that there is NOTHING like Camp Sonshine in Nova.

My rising kindergartener and first grader absolutely loved Camp Grow by Nova Parks and the Mulford Riding School Badn Camp.

Are there day camps that are $800/wk?

Butler and Whitman that were posted above. They’re in Darnestown though which isn’t convenient for a lot of people.

My 6 yo loved the lane in ivy city, ne dc. I assume it would be boring for older kids though… no field trips. $330/week or so.

DD4 has been having a fantastic time at Summer at Sandy Spring. It's our first summer there and we plan on returning next year.
She is one of the youngest there and the camp experience is tailored for different ages, it's a great camp for older kids too.
