If McDonalds food is not very healthy for you, shouldn't most of those elderly seniors be dead by now?

While I agree with a PP who said the socialization is good for them. Have you never overheard the conversations these 60 to 80-year-olds are having? Almost all of their conversations revolve around their doctors appointments and upcoming procedures.

They're living long not because of McDonald's, they're living long because they're greedy boomers who looted the nation and retired with obscene pensions and platinum lifetime health care. They piss away six- and seven-figures on end of life health care WE have to pay for! All so they can drive to McDonald's every morning in their new $80,000 Corvettes or top spec pickup trucks.

I’m retired and my income is $28,000 a year. This is fairly typical for Boomers. No Corvette or expensive pickup truck. I take public transportation. Where are you getting your information from?

Ok boring thread. Everyone is saying the exact same thing, repeating the same examples…

People incorrectly beleive that diet is somehow going to magically extend their life by a material amount. It won't. It may increase your quality of life some, but there is likely little or no evidence that a person who eats mcdonalds every day will have a shorter life.

This isn't a popular opinion but I think the role of diet in overall health is overstated in our generation. I know just as many people - actually probably more - who have lived an 'unhealthy lifestyle' especially WRT diet and have outlived those who didn't. It's just a crapshoot.

They would hang out there as teenagers decades ago.

Plenty of healthy choices at McDonald's. It's very convenient.

My dad used to go to McDonald’s every morning for at least a decade. He drank one cup of coffee. That is what a lot of them do. It’s a social event. Perhaps a few are actually eating but thier breakfast food has decently healthy options. Hey, you coukd eat there very day for lunch and get a salad with grilled chicken.

Many older folks have trouble preparing a hot, home cooked meal for themselves on a regular basis. The elderly folks I know are like this. Egg McMuffin for breakfast, and maybe some crackers or a piece of toast around 4-5 pm. I’d rather see them eat some protein, especially if it’s a warm sandwich surrounded by friends. Most older people drop weight as they age. It’s a good thing if they are hungry for an egg sandwich!

I agree with most posters. Small portions, even of McDonald's, probably won't kill you. It's when you order the big mac, large fries, huge soda, etc. McDonald's is an easy, cheap way to get a huge number of empty calories, but you don't have to use McDonald's that way.

Also, some people just have good genes. I think if these 80 year olds had problems with McDonald's they either would've cut it out in their 40's/50's, or they'd be dead by 80. Some people's bodies just aren't as affected by bad food.

I largely agree with this. How much you exercise or are sedentary probably makes a much bigger difference, including in your quality of life/brain health.

I think sleep is very much under appreciated.

Cigarettes are in a category of their own, and regular drinking is not good either.

+1. This looks healthy to me.

+2. In fact, I know some older people who live near a McDonalds or similar and will walk there daily to get their food and meet friends. The walking is healthy and so is having interaction, plus the meeting people is a way of checking in on each other.
