Invariably it is he who dumps his GF's once past what he calls "Magic" phase which seems to be 1-2 years. He treats them exceptionally well from what I can see, home is decorated like it out of a magazine advertisement and a sob story for why he is not yet married.

He has been able to focus on his career, had more women, lots more sex and is in a pretty good shape financially. It looks like that might be the better approach. Marriage might indeed be for suckers.

My older brother (52 now) never married. He was the popular, insanely good-looking guy in high school and a player. He was a pro athlete for a short period of time post-college.

I am glad he never married. He would have made a horrible husband and would have left a wake of destruction in his aftermath.

My mom pressured him a lot to get married/have kids, but it was not something he wanted and would just tease her saying things like "Mom, my wife hasn't even been born yet." just to get a rise out of her .

He changed from a high powered lifestyle to living a bachelor life in NYC teaching. He does his own thing. He has had many 'girlfriends' over his lifetime--but I think fairly honest with him about never settling down.

I respect him for this.

The judgement and self-inflation inherent in the phrasing “marriage is for suckers” speaks for itself…. The merits of the idea can be debated, but from the phrasing it is clear the guy is/was insecure and it manifested itself in superiority or he would be able to express this thought in a less judge mental way.

The suckers are anybody willing to date him.
