My child is very interested. The main drawback seems to be getting there from the DC area.
Compare the time door to door with colleges in upstate NY or Northern New England. Flying to Appleton, even with the change in Chicago, is faster than driving to many popular colleges in the Northern parts of the Northeast.
The same is true for colleges in the Pacific Northwest (Puget Sound, Reed, Willamette, etc.)
Flying isn't even much more expensive if it means you avoid paying for hotel rooms.

Sorry I wasn’t clear. I’m pretty sure that they are safeties in terms of my child’s stats but wondered about people’s experiences and knowledge of them as schools.
Dickinson and Lawrence are far better than the others on this list.
Yet, my DC turned one down for a CTCL. Some of us are not driven by USNWR.
Lawrence is a CTCL.
But that is irrelevant since Lawrence is not the one my DC turned down.

My DC liked Dickensian a lot and seriously considered accepting their offer. Their study abroad/career services are very strong. We liked the campus and location (easy drive from the DMV).

I attended Kalamazoo a decade ago and received significant aid. I was deciding between it, Wooster, and Denison. Chose it in part because I was turned off by any semblance of greek life. It still has a pretty high acceptance rate, so it's a good safety.
