Nope. My MoCo neighborhood has at least 3-4 neighbors who all do their own unregulated probably dangerous fireworks shows around the 4th. I mean, we don't even bother to go see any fireworks, just set up chairs on our deck when we hear the noises. Do people complain on Nextdoor? Sure. Are they that much different than the young brown guys setting off fireworks or whatever in the district? Not really, just older and lighter.

I had a retired neighbor a couple years ago have a massive party with a band and mortar fireworks out of his back yard. Same guy also had an election party and lit a ton fireworks when Obama won re-election in 2012.

Let me solve this "mystery" for you. Fireworks at country clubs don't occur in the middle of the night, don't regularly result in injuries to children, and don't start fires.


This thread has gone on for pages and the first time injuries and fires have been mentioned is now. For all of the prior pages the complaint was entirely nuisance.


Is it not valid to desire to not be jolted out of bed at 4am due to loud explosions? Come live in Petworth for about a week in July and then tell me how you feel about the issue.

Call the police. If enough people are as disturbed as you over the issue, they’ll have to act.

Or maybe they aren’t going to waste resources on busy bodies annoyed at their precious quiet being interrupted in a manner they don’t “approve” of.

This happens in my exurban/rural neighborhood too. Usually it's fireworks, sometimes it's gunshots.

"Boys will be boys" is never a good excuse, whoever those boys are. I just want the dangerous and disruptive behavior to stop and feel strongly that everyone should be held to a high standard here. We just can't have a society in which people decline to fulfill the social contract, and shame on anyone telling people they don't need to.
