This is correct. They also had no way of knowing what their yield rate would be because of the uniqueness of this process - timing, investment to apply, and the totally new geographic and demographic spread of the admits.

They’re dedicated to a class of 550, which I think is a good thing.

TJ only has 550 seats but why would they put so many kids in the WL? That's totally nonsense, should we believe this part of information?

That would depend on the middle school. If there weren't enough 4.0 Alg 1 kids and FARM kids to fill 1.5% requirement, they would have had to move on to Geometry or even Alg 2 students. The fact that your kid got in with Geometry, or that some other kid was admitted with Algebra 2 does not disprove the conjecture that FARM and Alg 1 were preferred over Geometry and Algebra 2

That conjecture makes no sense and therefore does not require disproving.

At some point admissions will release statistics of how many students in the incoming class were taking Alg1. It will be a MUCH smaller number than most people on here seem to believe.

They will only release this in response to a FOIA request. They perfer to have the press release be the only source of sunlight.

It is cruel. I actually had a kid get in off the WL when it was 50 and attend the class of 2020. So, BTDT. I believe the entire WL was offered sports that year Being on the WL for many kids means they still hold out hope and don’t being to mentally accept/adjust to attending base school. It’s hard to be 5-6 weeks away from school starting and not know which HS you are attending. In the past, there was a high probability that WL kids would get an offer, and they finalized offers by early July.

They have equitied admissions to death. They need to cap the WL at something reasonable and not try to 1:1 match WL sports by schools.

TJ admissions said they were going to do this prior to applications season.

No one forced anybody to apply.
