My 13 YO DD got her swim suits this year through Dicks Sporting Goods. The CALIA brand is really well made. Thick fabric. My daughter did get bikini's - but they had a lot of coverage and both parents and teen are happy!

My daughter has a version of this. Cute with shorts. That being said, she isn't much of a swimmer.

The other day I was at a pizza restaurant and the hostess was wearing a jean skirt so short she would not be able to bend over without exposing herself.

No one said they didn't allow bikinis. They said their DD didn't prefer one. Any bathing suit looks like walking around in underwear. You sound very judgmental.

They have fun prints and great colors. She’d probably be a 28 from what you said.

This is one of my favorite styles, the bright colors and cutouts make it a fun one piece.

If you shop Jolyn, do filter by bum coverage, some are skimpy.

Jolyn suits are popular and cute and can be flattering, but the light colored solids are completely see-through!

I don't think it is super weird. 14 is middle school age, and kids in middle school can be really brutal/hurtful/unthinking. I would def want to consider what kind of shape my kid was in at that age before encouraging a bikini. No need to set them up.

I encourage my slightly chubby daughter to wear one. She’s with family anyway. It’s good for confidence!

Some fashion swimsuits aren't actually very good to swim in. (I do not understand the ruffled off-the-shoulder styles this season one little bit.) But Target's Kona Sol line has some good looking options that go beyond a basic style - here are two that stand out to me:

My oldest has a bunch of suits from cupshe. They are cheap, but cute. This one is in between and bikini and a one piece:

But they have so many styles.

Third this rec! My 6 yo DD has noticed that all the 13 & up swimmers on her team wear these during open swim and was so sad they don’t come in her size. The girls at our pool wear the ones that tie in the back and in solid colors only.

This is what all the teens wear at our pool, too. Solid colors, tie back is the most popular. Dolfin suits are pretty popular with the tweens.

If she is used to swim team suits, She may be more comfortable in an athletic tankini. Or an athletic type suit that has a less conservative cut.

Tankinis are middle aged mom frumpy. Please don’t encourage it before her time comes.

There are lots of tankinis designed for older women, there are also ones that are cute.

Here’s the link to the top she wears with the shorts. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07S332X9D?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title&th=1

And here is her other suit. It’s a complete set. She’s not comfortable showing too much skin but didn’t want a one piece. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08QRQTCNH?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title&th=1
