This is nothing but your own projection, and I highly doubt your comment is based on conducting surveys with employees. At every chain store just across the river in Alexandria, employees were among the first to be vaccinated - and 25-50% of them are unmasked in big box, chain stores.

Does it really, though? I'd bet most of the employees are vaccinated, and their employers are only requiring masks since a lot of customers wear them. There are a lot of vaxxed employees who would LOVE it if their employers didn't make them wear one.


+1. At the NOMA Trader Joe’s there were 6 employees without masks. I was the only unmasked customer.

Unless your kids are begging and pleading with you to wear a mask outside, I'd drop it entirely. Unless your child is kissing other kids, in which case you have a different kind of problem on your hand.

The evidence of covid risk is simply not there for general outdoor play and interaction, and there's a greater risk of them fainting or getting heat stroke running around with a mask in this kind of weather.

There is a reason the World Health Organization recommends against masking kids 5 and under, and only tepidly recommends masks on 6-11 year olds. What we have done to children - the masks and extended school closures - makes us an outlier among nations.

NP. In DC we really need the mayor (eom@dc.gov) and OSSE (osse@dc.gov) to eliminate their outdoor mask requirements. OSSE to eliminate the requirement for school recess and summer camp. I've emailed to make this suggestion and encourage others to do the same!

This us exactly. We were very strict on mask usage to the point where my kids were not allowed to play with other kids who weren’t wearing them. Now that the adults we are close with are fully vaccinated and the evidence shows how low risk outside play is, we don’t require the kids to wear masks outside. In fact, I often take their masks off them right after school pickup.
