If you’re walking down the street to borrow something from a neighbor, sure. If you’re driving away, why don’t you put baby in car with you for errand? She can sleep in car seat. Not ideal but you’re not leaving kid alone

When I was six my mom got t boned by a guy running a red light and it took a while for the hospital to reach my Dad at work. My mom recovered just fine, for what it's worth but she wasn't in condition at the time to tell them anything. Fortunately a friend's Dad realized something was wrong when my mom wasn't there to get me at thr bus stop and took care of me. I was never alone.

Point is, it happens.

To be fair, this is something every parent has thought. Few had the courage to ask a public forum

Do you understand how fires work, there is no way a fire could engulf your house in 10 minutes, what if someone break in while you are there and you are a small woman.

Oh well, as long as the house is not ENGULFED, the baby will be perfectly fine. Just stroll back and explain to the fire department that it takes much longer than 10 minutes for your house to be totally engulfed i flames so no need to rush in to get the baby. Troll.

Couldn't this happen if parents are still in the house? Assuming parents also sleep at some point. You can't protect against all hypothetical risks.

I used to run out briefly while my kid was sleeping. Staying wiithin sight of the house. I agree it's not ideal but some of these concerns speak to mental health issues on the part of the parent (a kidnapping would be your concern?? Really?).

What could you possibly want/need that is 5 minutes away that couldn't wait? Or that you couldn't take your kid with you? Some magical horse d__k? A winning lotto ticket?

Trust me, if there was any way to do this safely, I would have figured it out. I had this thought a million times when my kid was a baby. Like almost daily for months. People who have never just felt imprisoned in their own homes subject to the sleeping whims of a small nonverbal human who cannot walk may not get it. It's hard. But no, you cannot leave your baby alone in the house to go somewhere else, even for a few minutes.

The one exception I can think of is if you are going literally next door and your baby monitor is in range. I think that would be doable, if you needed to run to your neighbors for something and your neighbor is RIGHT next door. Like I'm thinking row houses. But you can't go outside the range of the baby monitor. Anything could happen. It's just not safe.

But OP isn't saying how long she would be gone for... she is saying go somewhere that is 5 minutes away.

It’s not that “oh you could get into an accident while the baby was with you too what’s the big deal”, etc.

It’s that if these things happen when your baby is with you, your baby will be taken care of. If they happen when baby is home alone, baby could be there for hours before anyone realized it was home alone. THATS the issue.
