Maybe they stole something (they have a criminal mindset, we know that!). Maybe they were doing something wrong and they had a beef with the son of the victims for reporting them. We don't know. Let's not assume that the teen who has had both parents murdered before his eyes is a bad seed. Give him a little space to grieve and for the facts to come out.
Whatever he did, (or didn't do), it surely did NOT equate with having both parents murdered on their own property before his eyes. There is nothing he could possibly have done that would warrant that. I'm going to assume he was a good kid who was also victimized by those murderers.

This sounds like an inside job murder for hire. Trying to collect insurance and assets.
Sounds like a child who is all out of control and angry with his parents, thinks he smart enough to cook up a stupid plot that won't trace back to him.
Having successful or high ranking military parents is not a guarantee of success or ease in the military of their children. Military parents have kids with issues too. Not just african american military families.
Just speculating on the son's involvment. Sounds too close to the HLN murder stories I watch on the weekends.
It take a lot for two people who don't belong or live in a neighborhood to drive in and shoot two people point blank execution then flea.
WTH?
You really need to stay off the true crime channels. Your imagination has the best of you.
Your whole post is bonkers.

Like what?
They were going for the son. They worked with him. This was on the news.
Worked with him where? They tried to kill him twice and murdered his parents in broad daylight.
Not sure, wtop says:
“Police said that the men were co-workers of a relative of the victims. Davis said the motive is currently believed to be a dispute, and police are working to figure out what it was about.“
Agree. This is so strange.
The neighbors said the son was bringing crappy crime ridden friends into the neighborhood. There is so much more to this story.
Yes, the one neighbor interviewed said that anytime the police were in the neighborhood, it was always to respond to a situation at that house.
Sounds like one of those situations where the kid is in deep but tells mom & dad it's not that big of a deal when people start showing up, demanding things (answers/money/product) from him. Tells them he'll take care of it and not worry. They believe him because he's their son and they see him through rose colored glasses. Then this happens.
Something similar happened years ago when I was in my early 20s but not in the DMV area.
