I would personally read my family the riot act if they were being so difficult over something that is none of their business, not to mention boorish and rude.
I"m also a Sara and I have loved it. I've never had to explain my name to anyone and it is translatable into almost every single language (Spanish, English, Italian, French, Portuguese, Arabic, Hebrew, etc). I've lived in a few different countries and have really enjoyed that my name is so easy to travel with. Yes, it is a super common name but it will never be dated. Relax, OP. You just gave your kid the gift of ease.
