Idk my family likes “different” names like Crystal, Amaya, Mia, Blakely, Kaden... I named my children classic names (Elizabeth, Alexander and Josephine) and they hate my kids names so much. They call them grandma names and say my kids will be boring and studious (fine by us! Better than ending up on a pole). My parents are currently making fun of a cousin’s baby Anne, so I bet they’d dislike Sara too.

Everyone in the family really dislikes my nephew’s name but we would NEVER say that around him or his parents! How rude. Your family sounds awful, OP! And Sara Grace is a beautiful name.

Sara is lovely. I am not a fan of the middle name but who cares? It’s not a name anyone would ever find objectionable.

I would kick the next relative who comments on it out of your house.

We let our family change our mind about a baby name and it’s been the biggest regret of my life. My dd doesn’t even like her name now and I agree with her

I love the name Sara/h too and have loved it since I was a kid. If my spouse had been on board I definitely would’ve named my daughter that. But my spouse wasn’t a big fan of it. Knew too many Sara/hs growing up, he said.

Anyway, your family is way out of line. You need to tell them. Be firm. Say it’s very rude, inappropriate, and hurtful for them to keep mentioning how they dislike your daughter’s name. Tell them if they don’t stop, you will not be seeing them or interacting with them anymore. And please stop thinking of them as wonderful and supportive. If they were wonderful and supportive they wouldn’t be openly bashing their granddaughter/niece’s name.

Same with our families and our kids’ names. They do get over it after the baby comes.

It’s your child - the name choice is yours and your husband’s alone.

OP, just dropping in to say your DD's name is lovely, I like your story of how you chose it, and everyone giving you grief about it is an ASSHOLE. Seriously. If I were around when someone said something like this, I'd give them an earful.

I used to know a woman (coworker, this person is not my friend) who would make comments like this all the time about people's baby's names. Just super rude and judgmental, but also tossed off like it was no big deal. I kept telling her she needed to stop and that it's a tender subject for many people, but that it's especially rude to someone who is pregnant or just had a baby because that's such a difficult time. She'd just laugh about it and say "I know! I should stop. I just can't!" She even did it to her own sister, and made so much fun of her niece's name and just openly told her sister that she didn't like the name.

Some people just love the sound of their own voices and think everyone needs to hear their dumb opinions on everything. Ignore. Ignore. Ignore. Sara Grace is a lovely name. I can tell you really love your DD and I bet you are wonderful parents.

I"m also a Sara and I have loved it. I've never had to explain my name to anyone and it is translatable into almost every single language (Spanish, English, Italian, French, Portuguese, Arabic, Hebrew, etc). I've lived in a few different countries and have really enjoyed that my name is so easy to travel with. Yes, it is a super common name but it will never be dated. Relax, OP. You just gave your kid the gift of ease.

I think its fake because Sara is such a likable name. Who would object to Sara? There is nothing objectionable there
