Anonymous wrote:Ok this made me look up marina Rust and wow that’s a new world of crass. The weird anti-Trump posts along side her postings of her clearly incredibly privileged lifestyle is a bit shocking and kind of hilarious. Like he’s crass and she isn’t with all her upper class signifying photos (you can’t buy into this Antiguan enclave, but I can! See what a happy place it is!!)? Isn’t the upper class supposed to be above flamboyant self promotion? Isn’t that considered crass? And the travel to homes on foreign islands during the pandemic? This seems insanely tone deaf. How did she get vaccinated before my doctor friends? How does she not get skewered by the Left??
Why would she do this?

I grew up in NYC and went to private school in the 80s. This movie is the only tv/movie that gets it right. Though, I don’t remember having any intellectual conversations while drinking in a ball gown in a Park Ave. apartment. We were usually playing quarters and plotting which bar or club to go to.

"High society" just does not apply to the USA, sorry. Please don't be shy - just say the rich.
Now, if you were to talk about Europe, you could say the aristocracy, and talk about salons, etc. Or if you were to talk about ancient Chinese civilizations or the Indian caste system, yes, there might be a "high society" there. But America?
Don't make me laugh, OP.
Are you always this pedantic?
Or so desperately faux sophisticated?
+1 your euro faded sophistication is even worse
Anonymous wrote:Yes, OP, I am fascinated by NYC/old money society.
On a separate note, is Marina Rust still married? How old are her daughters now -- are they in college?
