If you are in debt that is hard to pay off or have financial concerns going forward ( is one of you quitting your job to take care of the baby, or have you not yet budgeted for childcare?) then you might need to more carefully consider what is reasonable to afford.
Otherwise I suggest that you consider a compromise. A good car seat is probably important and if you will be doing a lot of walking Or especially running on tough terrain you need a strong stroller. But you probably shouldn’t splurge on 20 newborn outfits the baby will wear once and every baby is so different you might wait to understand more about your needs. And a lovely nursery can be done on not too much.
Good luck OP. I think a heart to heart with your DH to find the compromise that matches your finances is in order. Good luck.
OP here. Wow, didn’t know I’d get so much feedback! Our HHI is $300K, we have a hefty savings, no debt besides mortgage. DH easily spends $300 on shoes. He values certain things and I value others. I realize I am likely overreacting, and think a compromise is a good idea. Thanks!
He spends $300 on a pair of shoes for himself but thinks $500 is too much for a combo stroller/car seat? Sounds like a real jerk
300 for shoes you can wear for years is different from a stroller a child will outgrow.

I was given some cute Walmart clothes but they only look cute the first time. It’s trash clothes. Carter’s and target are so much nicer.
I’ll never forget someone on dcum compared a graco stroller to pushing your kid in a garbage can. Ha
I am picky about brands and have really enjoyed the high end brands. They’re just nicer! Facebook marketplace is the best. I buy them, use them for a year and then sell for the same price I paid. It’s like renting baby stuff or borrowing basically.
You can buy the same baby stuff at Walmart that you can buy at Target that you can buy at Buy Buy Baby and even higher end stuff like Stokke/Cybex/Uppa.
