I live in 20906. At least in most sfh neighborhoods, it's not that bad.

And, if you bother to look at the crime grades map, you will see that this neighborhood and most sfh neighborhoods along Layhill are much safer. Actually much safer than Downtown Kensington.

So look at the actual crime map and not at what the "crime is awful" posters here are saying.

Careful regarding all the “consortium” talk. Posters act like kids can magically select which school they want. It’s not that easy. Go over to the mcps forum and ask parents how the consortium worked out for their kid.

For high schools: there is a consortium.
The title 1 school gets a fair amount of funding and my neighbor's kids go there.

I'm a fed live in a neighborhood nearby, and looked at this one as well. My neighbors are feds and teachers and police. If you are looking at around 500k near a metro, well...this is what you get.

The garden apartments are notorious, but the crime doesn't tend to spill over into this neighborhood. MoCo could fix the crime issue in the apartments by stationing officers in that area at all times, but apparently it's not much of a priority, even pre BLM. Again, I live nearby and the worst we have had happen is neighbors getting their unlocked (!) cars tossed.

Glenmont is fine. Ignore the negativity. Kensington is now being taken over by the flipper and prices going up.

The nice thing about Glenmont is that the kids get school choice between three middle schools and are in the consortium for high school. We go to one of the middle schools and having a really good experience.

I live here (the one who posted they travel to Glenmont frequently). It’s a great neighborhood, but prices have really gone up, and it’s competitive. One house recently had something like 30 offers on it and went way above asking. I think Glenmont is a reasonable alternative.

We saw this house yesterday. It will probably go for $650. The wall paper at least looks way better in person than in the pictures.
