They wanted to portray slavery too. However, some people, white and AA, expressed dismay over it and academic historians were not in favor as no amusement part would do the justice. Meaning that we do not have an accurate portrayal of what it was like back then. The phrase Past is a Foreign Country is accurate here.
It was not just that white people were upset that they would be shown potentially in a negative light. A few staged events at another public history site showed that when slavery was accurately portrayed, black Americans were visibly upset and it affected them to the degree that they did not think it was something actors that are AA should endure. Even white actors in other settings portraying very racists owners say that such historical play acting where their job is to scream and pretend to beat AA actors is deeply disturbing on a daily basis.
It was a terribly idea for all involved and hence abandoned.

I also hate Howard County new builds and would hate my life if I had to live on places like “Paternal Gift Dr.” (This is seriously road with a farm crop of McMansion s in Howard County).

Nothing wrong with that, just there's no character. You're really not close to DC -- not like you're going to pop in for a quick coffee at a cafe in Georgetown for example. So if you're not close to DC, might as well move even further out if the goal is to find inexpensive housing. Leesburg, Winchester, etc. All have plenty of cookie cutter developments and strip malls.

You go to to a place like Arlington or Silver Spring you get an actual downtown and real character, and you are actually close to DC. But, you're gonna pay for it.

Boring. Too far out. Might be okay with kids though.
