If anything, some of these comments speak to the insecurities of those paying a premium to live in those areas. The people in Ashburn know that Ashburn is what they can afford. And they’re okay with that. Easy access to Whole Foods, Wegmans, and TJs, lots of parks, good schools, wineries, walkable downtown Leesburg and One Loudoun, and pretty quick access to DC for a night out or day at the museums. Not to mention, there are lots of jobs in the Dulles corridor. Not everyone can live in Fairfield, Westchester, Wellesley, or Mercer Island. So for the rest of us, Ashburn works just fine.
