emergency use authorization is granted when certain criteria are met, including there are no adequate, approved, and available alternatives. In this case, 2 months of data was required along with the fact that there was no adequate approved alternative.
approval requires 6 months of data
Tick tock. It's been 6 months. Should be approved any day no?
Yes, maybe by this afternoon.
So when the FDA waves its magic wand, will we see a jump in vaccination rate?
They will find something else...maybe they can start saying vaccines cause autism again.
Out of my family and circle of friends I was the first to line up for every other vaccine, flu, Tdap, hepatitis vaccines. I am not getting this one though, at least not until it has been approved for a year or so. Call me all the names you want, it’s help turning me off to the vaccines even more.
It’s totally true that the onslaught of threats and shaming in this country, is only making people more suspicious of the real agenda here.
The fing real agenda is to end the pandemic, which requires us all working together and shouldering the vaccine risk. We only get community spread down by vaccination or real lockdowns, and we already learned Americans can’t lock down to save their mother.
Until all the kids can be vaccinated that isn’t going to happen. I will wait until it’s approved for children since I am smaller than many children.
Me too. Does that matter? Do you mean approved for emergency use or full approval?
I will wait for full approval for my children and myself. If it’s not safe for kids, it’s not safe for me.
How noble of you. I specifically got vaccinated to reduce the chance we would bring COVID home and infect our kids. But you do you.
Ha! My kids have surely been exposed, they have been back to school, hybrid and full time all year, playing sports, playing with a few other kids. We don’t live in DC area. We obviously have differing views of the dangers based on geography. People are careful here but most people are living normal lives and maybe are waiting to get vaccinated.

Until its approved for everyone, including children, I don’t feel comfortable taking it.
Why? What informs your reasoning? nP
I believe we should be prioritizing covid vaccine based on risk first and foremost, and that should include some children and teens. Thin healthy young adults, especially women are not suffering severely from covid. I also think a large number of people have natural immunity, it’s impossible for that not to be true. Let’s vaccinate all high risk populations first including kids and then go from there.

Although some of us want long term information, preferably 2+ years.
So you have never taken a newer medication? Like biologics? Or statins when they were new? Plenty of medication is fully approved and have had FAR less data and test cases than these vaccines and people take them all the time. And sometimes approved medications are recalled.
I could imagine mRNA has some long term risk, maybe even something terrible like cancer because of DNA encoding errors (just making stuff up) but it’s not like it’s going to change from month 4 to 6. It’s likely either a very short term inflammation risk or a years long something else risk.
And COVID has a very clear short term risk, and honestly could likely have long term risk similar to HPV and shingles, it’s a pretty wide ranging and impacting virus, so I would gamble on vaccine over COVID. Maybe Novavax will be better but won’t be authorized for months, and likely won’t have approval for longer since so few people will be taking it (since so many took mRNA).
If I was a childless hermit who could isolate forever, I would wait for Novavax. But I’m not so mRNA it is.
No I have never taken much more than a vitamin and a few OTC pain relievers very sparingly.
Well then you are in excellent health, with no autoimmune issues, likely fairly young and fit. So I assume you aren't worried about getting COVID, so why do you even care about the vaccine approval status?
I will wait until it’s approved for children since I am smaller than many children.

So then hospital systems can require all their employees to get the vaccine. Public schools can require it.
It will certainly be a good step forward.
