If he's going to lose his mind waiting until summer then you and he approached the whole process wrong. He hasn't been accepted yet at any college that he'd be perfectly happy to attend?

Many kids don’t wait until the last minute to make their choice. When they accept an offer, they are supposed to notify other schools they are declining. So spaces open up.
