This! Went to MDI one year around 4th of July and I got so many awful bug bites everywhere - face, butt (despite wearing jeans and bug spray)... no desire to go back.

What is MDI? Because I need to make sure never to go!

Mount Desert Island- where Acadia is

I canceled a vacation to cape cod last summer because of ticks. Like someone else said, it’s not much of a vacation if there’s something that’s going to make you anxious, which was the case for me. Plus I don’t live in an area with ticks so I don’t know how to remove them.

Really? I would have assumed there would be more! Do ticks prefer the cooler winters?

I live near Acadia & have never gotten a deer tick in the park. I find there are more dog ticks in that part of Maine. There are, of course, deer ticks on Maine but not as many as in MA, CT or RI (in my experience). Be vigilant with daily tick checks (all the warm, dark cracks too).

We spent a week in Acadia last August and didn't pick up a single tick (and my kids are the type to get them everywhere)

I spent a week hiking in Acadia and never got bitten. The trails in Acadia are very well maintained so you aren't in tall grasses.

You must not really know Nantucket then. It’s packed with deer and the deer and other wild life host ticks. There is even a salt lick on the Linda Loring property that is used to apply tick repellent to the deer.

Back to the thread - I venture to Acadia frequently and have never had a tick problem.

Dogs tend to get dog ticks, which aren't the kind that carry Lyme. Dogs also can get a Lyme vaccine.

Truly, the dog isn't the issue, it's you who should be careful.

+1

We go to MDI every year. We don't bring the dog hiking much but she's outside every day. She's fine. We give her Bravecto.
