+1 unless the DC office is close to L'Enfant or Union Station and then I'd say Burke for the VRE.
Vre to union station is really soul sucking
VRE is no more soul sucking than any other commute, and honestly it is much less soul sucking than a closer in commute on metro where you need to be mindful of not being robbed.
I've ridden the metro thousands of times and never worried about getting robbed.. Just because vre is full of middle aged people doesn't make it any safer than the metro.
I'm talking about how it would take 1hr + to get to union station from burke. VRE is definitely a nicer ride than the metro but the constant delays and lack of available times (runs every 45 mins during rush hr and pretty much stuck in dc if you need to go home during the day) made me resent it so much. I hated the feeling of potentially missing my train because that would mean I'd have to wait another 45 minutes to go home or to work.
There is a plan to upgrade VRE to more frequent service, in both directions, all day. Also to connect to MARC in Maryland. Whether or not this plan is implemented in your lifetime is another question, but if it is implemented, it will be a game-changer for the whole region.

Number 1 is practically on top of the 495-66 ramp, and they're doing extensive changes to that interchange.
Number 2 will practically be on top of 66 when they widen it inside the Beltway.
Number 3 seems light on pictures, but probably because the market doesn't require the effort.
Number 4 will probably go over $850 because it's got a McLean address.
I'd look at number 3.

The City of Fairfax has great services. The ratings on Providence Elementary is not high on Great Schools but we have been pleased and we have a great principal at Providence. Mosby Woods and Cobbdale go to Providence. The other two neighborhoods go to Daniels Run and I don't know a whole lot about it. There is a real community feel in Fairfax City, I know folks in my neighborhood that grew up in the neighborhood and came back and bought houses as adults. Prices have gone up but your budget should be good unless you want a new build. Huses zoned to Woodson cost more than houses zoned to Fairfax, but folks I know with kids at Fairfax have been happy.
+1
