According to this then DCPS is back just not back like you’d like.
Wrong. Some DCPS schools are attempting to return (though none are 5 days a week, full time with teachers in the classroom b/c teachers are still refusing to return, thanks to the terrible agreement Bowser negotiated with the WTU, which includes Term 4).
Other schools have never opened and will never open this year, including School Without Walls HS. Wilson HS lets kids come to one class per week in-person. One class. Others have CARES classrooms that are just distance learning in the building. NO teachers in the room.
All of them are still taking Wednesdays off, even though CDC guidance has said there is no need for the hygiene theater of "deep cleaning" which at schools that haven't had students there really makes no sense.
It's a failure of leadership from the mayor right on down to every principal and administrator who has spent the year running out the clock rather than really trying to get kids back in classrooms.
Wrong again and your refusal to return is old news.
Wednesday are not off for teachers - it is a workdays designed by DCPS. DCPS has done nothing to make it a student ipl or DL work day. I walked by my kids school today and saw teachers (gasp) working w kids outside. Gasp.
It’s because at our school we respect and don’t trash teachers.

No way I’ll name it a) because I’m petty like that 2) we are high performing, diverse and never mentioned on DCUM.
We don’t trash teachers or admin (even in private).
None of us wanted to go back in term 3 we didn’t think it was safe.
I posted this:
1. It’s 4 days a week and no parent is whining about it.
2. All the plans for schools are on the DCPS website so sourcing information from DCUM shows me how well you know how to do anything
3. The trash remarks from the trash women to a teacher (so teachers can Netflix and get a mani/pedi) your kids hate you too. You are failing as a parent. You get a tax credit for it and yet you do jack. Be better at being a human.
Oh it’s a private site I just come here to vent - piss off - go journal. You come here for the echo chamber. People posting success w the lottery are not venting.

I don’t want anyone for even a second to think that we are doing it for the rude and nasty people on this site. I didn’t read this site before the brookings report, but holy hell were they right. DCPS has already begun their backtracking bc they realize their messaging helped create this nice white parent monster, but it will also take some self reflection from y’all. I hope you take this opportunity to start thanking teachers and mending those relationships bc boy oh boy was your true self shown during this time.
If you've read this site and these threads (and not had to go into a classroom and teach for almost an entire year) then you should know that while there is certainly some venting done here (it's part of the fun of being anonymous on the Internet) there is ample reason for DCPS parents to be angry and frustrated with how the school system has treated us and our kids. You might want to check some of your own assumptions. Not all of us are rich white parents living in NW.
And you shouldn't go back "for the rude and nasty people on this site." You should go back because IT'S YOUR JOB and our tax dollars pay your salary. Also because the scientific evidence is overwhelmingly clear that it is safe to do so.
As for "thanking" teachers, what should we thank them for? Slavishly following the divisive advice of the WTU? Failing to show up for Zoom classes, grade student work, or make themselves available on the day off they have EVERY WEEK when they are supposed to be supporting students? Because I have two kids in DCPS at two different schools and that has been our experience. And neither has been able to return to IPL this year. I'll thank you to do your job and stop acting like you are a hero.
Thank you for proving my point.
Your point was to make parents who are frustrated and angry feel bad about that and instead chastise them about not thanking their teachers enough. Those of us who have been doing a lot of DCPS' job at home for them this year while also doing our own jobs (including many of us who don't have the option to work from home) have lost patience with the idea that teachers are some sort of special or heroic group of workers, to say nothing of the stunts pulled by the WTU. If you need to be constantly praised and thanked for doing your job then good luck to you. As grateful as many of us are for the efforts of individual teachers this year, teachers as a group in DC don't deserve special praise for being among the worst in the US about getting back into a classroom to teach kids.
Anonymous wrote:My kid's school has one or two teachers who do this too, but it is still a full day of lost instruction every week for an entire year. Huge loss of learning. It was WTU that negotiated that with DCPS
LOL I'm "trashing teachers" because I want them to return to teaching 5 days a week in a classroom. Have you followed ANY of the behavior of the WTU this past year?
