Hopefully I’m misreading your post, because it sounds like you’re complaining in part that the hospital caught that you had the car seat installed improperly before you put your newborn in it to drive home. If so, you should be thanking them, not complaining.

Why would someone install a car seat for a newborn without properly setting it for the newborn at the time? It’s not like you just press a button and it adjusts itself.

I think the point is that she didn't have an epidural, so that somehow means the child was safe in an improperly set up carseat.

I don't get it either.

I don’t think they call CPS, they just don’t clear the baby to leave the premises.

Only a fool would walk a new born home even if it is only ten minutes away. Are you planning on carrying infant or using a red wagon to get it home. A car seat should have been one of your first purchases.

I left the hospital a day early after a nurse tried to school me on the dangers of walking down the corridor with my newborn. My THIRD newborn... 🙄

It’s all just CYA. They could give two shits about most babies and mothers.

With covid, they stopped me in the lobby and made me return it to the car.

I was wearing a diaper and had blood clots the size of a child's fist falling out of my uterus in the days right after birth.

Honestly, it's a really nice idea to walk home if you are all feeling great, but plan for plan B and bring a carseat. Or a wheelchair for you and your spouse can push both you and the baby home

Don’t terrify the poor woman. I would have been fine to walk 10 minutes. Hell, going from the hospital room to the parking lot (our baby had a short peds stay for a non-emergency reason) was a 10 minute walk. I would have been fine to walk 30 minutes and spent a fair amount of time pacing around my room waiting for discharge. Vaginal birth, some tearing.


There’s no reason to be terrified, but giving birth does do a number on the body. I went out on short, gentle walks from the day I left the hospital and was fine. But also remember taking a longer walk on day 4 or 5 and it felt like my insides were going to fall out and had to take lots of breaks.

And that’s with a vaginal birth with average tearing.
