He is claiming that someone extorted a bribe from him to make the investigation go away—and that his dad (why his dad? Money?) was wearing a wire to catch that guy (and possibly secure some kind of deal for his son in exchange?)

And now he’s demanding the FBI release the tapes.

I don’t think that’s how things work.

So I’m gonna guess Trump was using the DOJ to hold these things over the heads of various members of the GOP. Gaetz became a full-on Trump freak after the 2016 election was done.

Will be interesting to see how all of this shakes out.
