I thought about taking my current carseat (Cybex Eternis) but it is quite heavy and large- I think probably one of the heavier and larger one on the market- so carrying it around by myself, with a toddler (who, also, likes to be carried in new environments), and probably a huge carry-on with all her stuff, sounds overwhelming without an extra set of hands. Just trying to find the easiest way to do all this!
OP- buy the lightweight seat and a trolly for the airport. We have used ours on every trip and it makes it SO much easier- they gate check it for free for you and will wand you at security usually if you ask instead of having to break it all down and shove it through the machine.
Your kid literally becomes like a rolling piece of luggage strapped in and and you can get through very fast. Dont use a big carry on unless you don't also plan to check a bag. If you are not checking, then make sure your carry on rolls as well. Don't pack anything like diapers, wipes, etc beyond what you need for a full day (in case you get delayed), plck up all that stuff at your destination. Use the seatbelt to get the seat in and out of your ride share to taxi and you will be fine. I know that feeling where you are worried about all the new elements of something, but you do the above and I promise it will be so easy peasy.

DH drives us, drops us off and then goes home and ubers to the airport. Takes forever.
Or we use a rider safe vest, which we love.

Not OP - I checked Uber and it states that it's an option that only available in NYC. I am missing something? How to you make the special request?
They don't have them in most cities anymore, I tried both last year and the year before in Boston and DC after coming here to visit. They used to have them before then (but were basically folding boosters)

Have a friend or even your ex drive your car, and drop you off/pick you up.
My ex and I had a horribly contentious divorce and I still drove him and our child to/from the airport, so that I could ensure our child was in a car seat.

Why not just schedule the Uber with a car seat? It would be much easier than buying some thing.
+1. Uber with car seat, OP! I did this when my car died while my husband was traveling for work (his was parked at the airport) and I urgently needed to take my son to preschool. I'm in the MD suburbs. This was pre-pandemic though, so double check availability.

Bubble bums, mifolds, and any other backless boosters are not for toddlers.

We traveled internationally with our 1 YO several years ago. We did not bring a car seat. When we arrived in Spain, no taxi would take us b/c we didn't have a car seat. We finally found one that had a car seat to take us to our hotel. Once we were in Madrid, we walked/strollered everywhere and if we had to cab it (1-2 times), we just put the baby in our lap. Otherwise, for long drives out to the airport, we contracted a taxi with a car seat.
