A 13 year old will be driving in 3 years.

If your kid plays sports or does an after-school club, it is reasonable to expect that she can safely walk home at 6:30-7:00pm.

THAT is the problem. Not the fact that some parents allow their 13 year old girls to walk home at 6:45pm.

Even so, my teens will not be out alone.

I think it’s shameful we can’t let our kids out in the evening. This is also at a time when we are decriminalizing violent behavior and reducing sentences, increasing paroles and embracing jail avoidance strategies, which is wonderful until it’s NOT.

It is not victim blaming to say that unfortunately men are violent animals so girls can’t walk around alone in vulnerable situations. It our sad reality. It’s not being a feminist to put your own or your daughter’s life in danger as a political statement. Rock creek park has been dangerous for my entire life of 4 plus decades. Women and girls running there have been attacked regularly over the years. I can’t imagine why anyone would go walking or running there in the dark. It sucks and it’s not your fault that men go there to find women alone, but it is real.

However, while this girl should be able to walk in the park alone this is why many of us don't allow our kids to as bad things happen. Its pretty much well known in this area as incidents have happened in the past as well.

x1000 It was a horrible and terrifying experience for her but she is so fortunate that she was able to scream and then that someone came to check. A lot of times people get so scared they can't scream. Oh this is upsetting. I am glad she wasn't hurt worse.

MCPD and Park police will certainly do their job.

The problem is the court system in Montgomery County favors the criminals/assailants. The guy will be caught and then let back out to do the same thing over and over.

We have a ring of people committing car thefts in our MoCo neighborhood. They’ll catch one, but more pop up. And apparently it’s part of a well-funded gang type organization that puts up bail money when one of them does get caught.

This has everything to do with parents raising shitty boys, like I said instead of telling girls they can't go outside at night why don't we tell boys they can't go out at night?
